What We Do

Cumberland Place offer a totally holistic approach in the services we deliver to our clients. Whether you require investment management, advice or other services, Cumberland Place are uniquely positioned to provide you with what you need.

We offer you a choice in the way in which we manage your invested funds, either through discretionary or advisory management service.

This investment offering is unusual, as many firms offer only one or the other option, to suit their particular business model. However, here at Cumberland Place we work with you to find the best investment approach to suit your needs, rather than ours. In addition, we offer you a range of financial planning services to help you achieve your objectives.

This includes pension advice and retirement planning, investment management, Inheritance Tax mitigation, Court of Protection services and many others. Check out our other pages for more details.

Cumberland Place and 1825

We announced in January 2018 that Cumberland Place was to be acquired by 1825, the national financial planning firm owned by the Standard Life Aberdeen Group. The FCA has now given regulatory approval and as of 6th April 2018 we are now wholly owned by 1825.

We believe that 1825’s ethos and culture largely mirror our own where the client has always been at the heart of everything we do and this will very much continue to be the case. Cumberland Place adds to 1825’s presence in London and we will continue to serve clients from our office in Finsbury Square.

We will continue to provide high quality financial advice for our existing and new clients, and build stability and security for both clients and colleagues.

Who We Are

See the Whole Team

Our History

Cumberland Place Financial Management was born from a belief that only by placing you at the centre of what we do can we deliver what you truly need. So, in 2002, Robert Goldschmidt and Tony Moss founded Cumberland Place to deliver a level of expertise and service that seemed to be missing from the market place.

We have built long-term, close relationships with both clients and other professionals, and sit alongside you both in planning your affairs and at any moment of need.

The firm has grown with additional advisors, investment analysts, planners and support staff, maintaining a family feel and embedding the Cumberland Place philosophy throughout the whole team.

Our Fee Structure

We are a fee-based firm. This means our initial exploratory meetings are without commitment or obligation. Before acting for you, we will explain the process that we will adopt, the timescales involved and how we will charge for it. We will deliver impartial advice at all times.

Social Responsibility

Social Responsibility

We take our role in society seriously, and believe that supporting worthwhile causes is a crucial part of playing our part in the community. As such, there are a number of organisations that we are extremely proud to be able to lend assistance to, be that financial or service-oriented. Below, you can read a bit about each of these charities and the work they do. If you’re interested in connecting with any of the organisations, we’re more than happy to introduce you to an appropriate contact.

Crohns and Colitis in Childhood

There are two primary forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD): Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Both cause long-term suffering in patients both physically and emotionally, most of whom suffer in silence on a daily basis as it interferes in a most intrusive way that only people with the disease – or those close to them – can appreciate. Crohns and Colitis in Childhood (CCC) raises money for ongoing research into both treatments and possible cures. It is important work that has been under way for a number of years, and is seeing dramatic advancements in the quality of life afforded to sufferers of IBD.

Cumberland Place Social Responsibility - Guts in Motion - Charitable Support

Cumberland Place Director Tony Moss has a close friend who has suffered with Crohns most of his life and who, a few years ago as a last resort, became only the 11th person in the UK to undertake a small intestine transplant.

Tony says it is not always immediately apparent how much suffering this disease can cause.

“Only when you experience what a Crohns sufferer has to put up with, day in day out, do you realise how nasty and unforgiving this disease is. Also, because of the nature and symptoms of the disease, it is not discussed and has a low profile; most people will not understand what it is and therefore this cause is in such needs of funds and research.”

Cumberland Place is happy to be able to support what is crucial work, and our most recent sponsorship of CCC saw us sponsor their Guts in Motion London walk which met at the finish line with their annual London to Paris ride on 8 July 2016.  Here is a photo of Tony Moss, Nick Lowy and Goke Adeola of Cumberland Place on the day of the event.

This year, Kisharon celebrated 40 years of delivering excellence in the field of education, vocational training, care and support for children and adults with learning disabilities. This takes place within a traditional Jewish environment, and started in 1976 following a realisation of the flaws in the system. Going from strength to strength, Kisharon is now looking to build a new, state-of-the-art teaching facility.

Using support and therapies, the aim of the charity is to promote the potential of the individual, enabling those they work with to live as independently as possible within the community. Cumberland Place is proud to support Kisharon in what is an admirable and necessary mission. We have done for a number of years, and we look forward to continuing this partnership into the future. Headway North London

As a firm that also specialises in Court of Protection work, we understand just how important charities that assist people suffering from head injuries are. As such, we feel privileged to be able to provide assistance to Headway UK through the form of Corporate Membership status and, more specifically, the Headway North London branch through ongoing voluntary work.

This charity works on providing relief and rehabilitation support to people who have suffered a head or brain injury through illness or accident, as well as supporting their loved ones. As with the other charities we work with, this is incredibly important work that is close to home for the clients that our Court of Protection specialist Nick Lowy has worked with throughout his time in the field.

Headway’s aims have the long-term goal of building a community in which people with head injuries are valued and able to fulfil their potential. To read more about the great work they do, head to their website. To read more about our Court of Protection work, visit our Corporate Services page.
