Court of Protection

Court of Protection

Cumberland Place provide expert independent financial and investment advice to professional and lay deputies acting on behalf of recipients of personal injury and medical negligence awards and elderly clients under the Court of Protection.

Our personal injury and Court of Protection specialist, Nick Lowy, has extensive experience in dealing in this specialist area and understands the unique and personal nature of each individual’s situation. Combining this knowledge with the investment management expertise and professional resources of Cumberland Place ensures we deliver the highest level of personal service and achieve the optimum balance of income, growth and capital preservation.

We discuss the individual’s current and expected future income requirements and agree the most suitable investment strategy to cover their expenditure for as long as possible, whilst making use of all available allowances to mitigate tax. Our advice involves regular meetings (at least annually) to check the individual’s circumstances, confirm or change the investment strategy to ensure it meets their objectives, and to review portfolio performance.

Your case is personal and your circumstances unique. We understand that and would love to help you through the process.

Cumberland Place is proud to support the important work of Headway East London. For more information, please see the ‘Social Responsibility’ section on the About Us page.

Business Protection

In the event that you or a fellow director/partner were to suffer a critical illness or die, are the correct plans in place to ensure business continuity and to safeguard the needs of your loved ones? If a key person was critically ill or died what impact would that have on your business?

This is often an area that is overlooked, yet can be critical for protecting you and your business.

Cumberland Place is well positioned to assist you in putting the proper safeguards in place to ensure that whatever the situation, your business can deal with it.

Charities – Planning and Investment

We appreciate the importance of the work that charities do, and know that a lot goes on behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly. It is with this in mind that we help you manage investments and finance, and get the most out of your important work.

We run a number of investments for charities and trusts and understand the unique requirements of those involved. We can help trustees fulfil their legal obligations, as well as advise on the broader strategic planning concerns, which can have a significant impact on the direction of the charity.

There are many things a charity needs to consider and certain problems that we see arise. For example, are you fulfilling your statutory duties? Is your balance set correctly between income, growth and preservation? We have found that, as a result of poor previous investment experiences, some charities are either holding too much cash or staying with mediocre investment managers. We like to engage with our trustees to ensure a level of service that charities deserve, so we can avoid situations that damage both credentials and achievements.

We will work with you in much the same fashion as we do individual clients in the sense of personal interaction, developing a deep understanding of your circumstances and ensuring that any portfolio we manage is in line with your expectations. We offer charity trustees the option of delegating the investment management of all or part of their charity’s portfolio to a specialist investment management group who hold detailed knowledge and experience of portfolio construction, asset allocation, management and reporting.

Pension Fund Trustees

We understand that pension fund trustees have a unique and specific set of responsibilities and duties.

We appreciate the stresses and strains of individual trustees and are able to help them meet the challenges caused by current regulations, particularly taking into account the legislative and economic backdrop.

Examples of the areas we have assisted with are occupational scheme wind ups, beauty parades, employee engagement and advice regarding pension legislation.

We are also able to offer our discretionary investment management to pension fund trustees.
